Finding the right site

The first thing that you should know before you start your rose garden landscaping project is whether roses can flourish in the area that you currently live in. Besides choosing the right rose variation and paying attention at where you live in, you should do landscaping a rose garden in an area that receives at least eight hours of sun daily. Morning sun is of course preferable than the afternoon sun, but either would suffice than lack of sun.

Another factor that you should consider is the soil drainage of the spot that you choose. Muddy soil or areas that are prone to standing water should not be used to plant roses because they do not encourage growth, but instead will lead to disease. Clay soil and sandy soil are also not advisable for landscaping a rose garden. The best type of soil is to equally mix sand, clay, and hummus or compost. To be more precise, the pH of the soil should be steady between 5.8 and 6.8.

Choosing the right rose to plant

Once you find out a suitable area for landscaping a rose garden, now it is time to choose which rose or roses to plant. Some years ago, choosing one variation is the popular thing to do, but now growing several varieties of roses is becoming more popular.

There are many rose colors that you can choose so it is very likely that you will find a shade that best beautifies your garden. For instance, a marble fountain would go well with pink roses while white roses look nice with a wooden archway.
